      "Step by Step School, Kundalahalli"

So, we visited step by step to see if we could admit our kid there. Prior to going there, we visited Vibgyor, Neev and other (play)schools in Whitefield area. To talk to anybody (principal, management) in Neev, you are supposed to pick up a form that is posted outside the school gate, fill it up, get a number to get an appointment to meet the principal later some other time . They don t give any appointments over the phone and you are _required_ to visit them to get the appointment. Makes me wonder whats going on there? Vibgyor charges 78k for nursery which includes 20k admission fees (read donation) and 58k for other fees. Because I did not bother to take an appointment to take an appointment (you read it right), I don t know what the fee structure there is. If anybody is aware of the fee structure in Neev, please do post. Now, coming back to Step by step, the principal was nice enough to return a call and agreed upon a time to meet after school hours. The school is housed in a 50x80 or slightly bigger plot in dream meadows, Kundalahalli. You have to go past Ryan International to get there. There is a lawn, lots of plants (that the kids apparently grow there) and a two leveled building with clay tiles on the first level. The principals office is located there. Apparently, the principal has about 20 years (if I got it right) of experience in teaching (in army schools?) From the conversation we had, she moved to Bangalore about 8 years ago, and started a school in defense colony, Indranagar because she was disillusioned with Big schools and their money making motives. Apparently, she closed it down and moved to the current location because she owns the piece of land. She did spend a lot (about an hour) of time with us and spoke the usual child is precious, child need not be pressurized, learn by experiencing, theme based etc with us and was kind enough to take us around and show their facility. Looks like they are trying to follow a mix of the Montessori way of teaching (and? - I did not fully understand what the other way is). Everything looked reasonable until we arrived at the fee part. The asking fee was about 50k which includes a 12k admission fee (donation) and the remaining 38k goes toward the other fees (development, tuition etc) As per the principal, expect to see a 10% yoy increase in the fee to accommodate teacher salary hikes, other costs etc. Transportation amounts to nothing less than 1k/month and they do provide their own transportation which as per the principal is not outsourced. Looks like a few european kids went to school there and their parents seem to have been happy there as evident from the year/school book that the principal showed us. Application process included a birth certificate, 6 pictures and 300 INR (just for the application). We did not receive any receipt for that. Well, we did not ask for one! When asked if we could visit the school while it was functional, she was open to it and in fact recommended that we do visit it. So, we need to go check it out. So, bottom line is that this school is no cheaper than comparable schools in Whitefield area. Comparable is a highly subjective word to use though. Makes me wonder if 38k for play school is worth it. Add a 10% to it and you pay about 42k for nursery, 46k for pre kg and 50k for kg. Thats about 2lakhs and the kid is then all set to go to another school after paying more admission fee there. Assuming the kid wants to go to Vibgyor 4 years later and assuming a 10% increase (only) in admission fee, be ready to shell out atleast 30k towards admission fee and 70k towards tuition fee. So thats 3 lakhs, and the kid is not done with grade 1 yet! Is the school any better than other comparable schools? Only time will tell. Welcome to the Bangalore s (elite) schools! Note: I am giving this school an average rating because I don t know much about it yet. Might change my mind and the rating after I am better informed.

It is a super program if your child is within 4 years. Don t miss the program. It works 100%. Results are amazing for all the parents who have taken up the program. It only takes 5 to 10 min everyday to do this to the child. I highly recommend the program.

My daughter has been in this school for an year and we have been thrilled the way she is turning out to be. Tinystars was our first choice compared to others for its homely environment, extremely experienced teacher Mrs Vedavalli whom we call maami.

The concept of having music (guitar, keyboard & drums) classes and Dance (Free style, salsa, hip hop & bollywood) in addition to the usual kids activities are a treat. The splash pool idea is cool.

co-operative & helpful staff, good teachers and reasonably spacious for a play home or pre-school. They have good collections of Toys - both indoor & outdoor. They tour children once a month. They teach children basics of basic what's required at that particular age without insisting on curriculum like other play homes/ pre-schools do.

The creche is run by an Army officer's wife... the atmosphere is very homely, its hygienic ... My kid is happy and thats a great relief for me ( I can work at my work place with out any worries). They feed kids every 2-3 hrs .. food is prepared fresh for every meal and includes a variety of things- milk, soups, snacks, fruits, veges, rice, pulses, cereals etc. They maintain a good schedule for eating , sleeping and playing... Overall I really like this place and would definitely recommend it to others

      "Worst Daycare : Vivaa International"
      1 out of 5 blips
Dear Parents, I wanted to share the bad experience that I had with a daycare centre – Vivaa International, Koramangala 3rd Block, Bangalore. The incident that I am narrating is of 6 months back. We started sending our 1.5 year son to Vivaa International from December 2007. He used to cry everyday when we used to drop him there. I assumed that it is quite common as the place was new to him and he will be alright in 15 days. But unfortunately it did not happen that way. He used to cry more and more everyday and when we inquired about it in Vivaa they used to say that some children are like that but he will be fine after sometime. We really trusted them and continued to send him to Vivaa. After 3 months also the same continued, not only that the child looked horrified when we mention about the daycare and he used to refuse and cry even more. Meanwhile I consulted doctor and other daycare manager and everyone were of the same opinion that child should go happily/without crying to daycare in a month and that there should be something wrong in the daycare. Whenever we tried to talk to Nanditta/Sapna – directors of Vivaa, they did not help me to understand the root cause of issue and nicely used to put the blame on my son, saying that some children are like that. After going through this situation we decided to discontinue from the daycare and we informed Nanditta and Sapna about it. They agreed and said that they would refund the amount Rs30000/- which we paid 4 months in advance toward Montessori+Daycare from June 2008 to December 2008. We discontinued from March 2008. * Till now they did not refund even a single paisa. * Recently I came to know that my neighbor and another 2 colleagues of mine also faced similar issue with Vivaa and even they had to discontinue from Vivaa. So I wanted to bring this to everyone’s notice and ensure that Vivaa International is published as blacklisted daycare centers so that others need not go through the similar situation. They are just after the money and not bothered about the child. Now my son is 2 year and 3 months and I would like to send him to preschool/play home. But after going through this horrible experience he is refusing to go to any preschool/play home. This is the worst thing to happen any child and I strongly feel that Vivaa is responsible for this. This is more annoying me than losing Rs30K. By posting this I know that I will not get my money back but I want other parents to take a note of it before they decide to send their child to Vivaa. Regards, Vinayashri
