"Stay away from Tata Indicom if you value your time and money"
      1 out of 5 blips
I lived in Salt Lake, Calcutta/Kolkata when I faced my nightmarish experience with Tata Indicom. I almost took them to consumer court over it and at the end decided they weren't worth my time. I went to their swanky City Centre showroom to purchase the Plug-2-surf for my laptop as I was to leave the city for a few months in 6 days' time (which I informed them too) and I needed the internet connection urgently. Do bear in mind that each and every time I went there I had to wait a minimal time of 45 minutes to speak to the sole customer so-called-'care' executive who dealt with plug to surf, an incoherent woman with an IQ of 40. Day 1: I was assured that I would get the connection activated within 36 hours if I submitted certain standard ID proofs for getting a SIM and would have the connection well before I departed. Day 2: After the mandatory wait when I submitted ID proofs, I was told that University ID cards were not ID proof enough. Day 3: My license was accepted as valid photo ID (whereas in places like Mumbai licenses bcz they can be so easily faked are not accepted) and I was asked to come back in 2 days to collect the modem (Rs. 3,000) and SIM (Rs. 99) after they accepted payment. Day 5: I collected the SIM and modem. I went back and tried it, it wouldn't work. I called them up and was told there's a technical hitch and it would work by the next day. Day 6 (the day of my journey): I got a call in the morning saying that because I was a student in the hostel I could not be trusted to make the payments and hence I must return both modem and SIM to them by going to their centre. Obviously heated arguments ensued with everything including emotional blackmail (The girl at the shop actually tried to tell me that she would have to pay Tata for the modem and sim, which I had already paid for by the way, if I did not return it) being inflicted upon me. Finally I agreed to return the SIM if they could come and collect it from me but I'd use the modem with a different SIM, but that was not acceptable to them. They sent me an errand boy who was asked not to leave without both the modem and the SIM WITHOUT A RECEIPT OR THE REFUND AMOUNT! Also note, that there was a scheme on at that time that i could surf unltd for the 1st 3 months! Yet they did not trust me to make a payment of Rs. 300 a month after that and expected me to return them the goods validly purchased by me without a refund OR a receipt! I was extremely disgusted with them. I did use the modem with a different Tata Indicom SIM later and as if the above experience wasn't enough, I was subject to the WORST internet speeds even slower than dialup..a true example: 12minutes 42secs to load Gmail in HTML format. I HATE the company and their disregard for our time and money and will happily be the advocate free of charge the day someone actually sues them.

had a very bad experience when enquiring about the broadband services. They mostly support phone services and have some internet plans info. but no experts there to guide for broadband issues.
