Food is just about okay.Ambience is again not very striking. also, it feels, one is living in 1947, if the staff and slow service is to be thought aboout.
The restaurant is located at the market behind the American Embassy, parking is around the corner or a bit further on the other side of the market. When we walked in we were greeted by friendly Indian waiters, that should have been our first cue and when the kitchen door opened it was the Indian cook who smiled. The menu card looked impressive featuring Chinese, Japanese and Thai food, unfortunately none of them resembled to it's origins as we found out later.
The waiter took our order and waiting time until food was served was within reasonable timing. All the Chinese dishes were served in medium-sized bowls where it was heavily buried under thick starchy gravy! The Thai Satay was tender but had the distinctive color of Tandoori Chicken and accompanying peanut sauce had a disappointed taste of too much tomato ketchup. As for Japanese it only had a few items of which only the Gyuoza sounded familiar. Stir-fried noodles and rice were actually the best items on the table, if you considered it as good fusion.
For Chinese fare, Lotus Garden served it's Indian dishes far better than what the menu promises. With a very light breakfast, a hot day and dinner time still far away we were hungry so we just filled our stomach without taste nor pleasure. We paid our bill and left with no intention to return. For us it's hello Delhi and farewell Lotus.
Ching Family
there used to be a old oriental lady who was a chef at Pan Asia when it opened, to me that epitomised what Pan Asia was all about, she was an expert with the wok and dished out great food, since then she has left and Pan Asia is no longer my favourite restaurant anymore. The service - the last 3 times I went there was dispicable, over a sunday buffet plates were not cleared between servings, the second time our main course came before the starter. What shocked me the most each time was the callous attitude, no apology, no remorse. All the good servers seem to have left for Wasabi, which I guess is the place to head to now. Pan Asia, goodbye, it was great while the going was good.
