In my opinion one of the best places for continental food in Kolkata (and they do a decent job with Indian food too) Reasonably priced. They sizzlers are by far the best. The fish too. Try their Angels On Horseback, or the ala Kievs. Their Pepper Devilled Crab is not to be missed. Even their Thums Up seems to taste better than at other places. Only thing is they are not open to adjust their menus as per the customers' requirement (like they refuse to replace liver with anything else). Unfortunately the sausage served these days is of the preserved variety.
"Mumtazuddin the famous Watch and Cell-phone seller"
2 out of 5 blips
The mobile shop of Mumtazuddin on Mission Row is in the corner, when you take turn from Bowbazar street, crossing Lalbazar; is drawing customers because of their reputation in Watch Business at Radha Bazar.
Today I bought a cellular Phone Nokia 5310 from them, this has been my fifth mobile, since I trust the shop, I never bargain; they claim to offer the highest discount, at least verbally . They made me to pay Rs7200/- with a free gift worth Rs200/-.
Back home I opened the gift packet, found two small glass bowl, costing at the most Rs20/- and the price of the set is cheaper at my local shop, they are asking Rs7150/- !!
I see the dooms day of Mumtazuddin in near future, hope you too. So, look before you buy from any reputed shop; they may turn out to be another Mumtazuddin!
Being a regular at this joint, I would rate this place to be excellant in terms of a lazy family dinner, a get together and also for a business dinner. The food quality is excellant aganist the price but it seems the owners are now looking at high profitibility angle also. I was there a couple of days back and was a bit taken aback to find that the serving quantity has been reduced and the sizes of the chicken pieces were quite small compared to what was been served even a month back. My request to the owners is to maintain the quantity as well as the quality. I have many people who are NRI s and am proud to state that they have all gone back with fond memories of the place, even people who are from outside Kolkata, make it point to have an evening planned out at the joint. Please do not dissapoint us. I hope to see the same BOSS on my next visit.
It is the BEST in Tangra, in terms of foods and ambience.
If you order in advance for their speciality,(maybe a ten course meal )you will be BOWLED out.
Buffet definitely good value for money but food at times tastes like it was washed in water and put in a new sauce. We have had crabs that had gone bad. They can be careless with their ala carte menu and we had peas in the food despite very strict instructions to the contrary (my sister is severely allergic to them). Inspite of everything, I would still have their buffet and their food in general isn't so bad.
Another place which does good food. The Chinese is very well cooked (soups starters etc). The Fish steaks (and other continental fare) are yummy, they are well accompanied and the slab size can bring a smile to your face (and water to your mouth). Be careful as some items can be very spicy (not marked in the menu as spicy). The ambience isn't the best (a tad hip) and its rather pricey. Definitely worth a splurge.
Nothing special about the food there and neither will you be disappointed with it either. So if you had visited a restaurant with a similar price range you will get what you paid for in this one.
