In my opinion one of the best places for continental food in Kolkata (and they do a decent job with Indian food too) Reasonably priced. They sizzlers are by far the best. The fish too. Try their Angels On Horseback, or the ala Kievs. Their Pepper Devilled Crab is not to be missed. Even their Thums Up seems to taste better than at other places. Only thing is they are not open to adjust their menus as per the customers' requirement (like they refuse to replace liver with anything else). Unfortunately the sausage served these days is of the preserved variety.

Another place which does good food. The Chinese is very well cooked (soups starters etc). The Fish steaks (and other continental fare) are yummy, they are well accompanied and the slab size can bring a smile to your face (and water to your mouth). Be careful as some items can be very spicy (not marked in the menu as spicy). The ambience isn't the best (a tad hip) and its rather pricey. Definitely worth a splurge.

Though they do not have the best seating or interiors, this smallish restaurant serves some nice stuff. Their fish steak in brown sauce is really good. The Kabab Platter is nice too, as are other items from their menu. Prices aren't too low but not too expensive either.

We have tried all the menu offerings, and most of them several times over, to offer this advice - Stay Away if Possible. The current restaurant is tucked behind a coffee shop on Wood Street. And what could have been a cozy place to try foods from multiple cuisines, is a shabby place with waiters vying for a comfortable spot to gaze at the large screen TV on the wall across the kitchen/service area. The place offers pure vegetarian items and is best known for their Mexican, Italian and some Continental dishes. We have tried their Burritos, Enchiladas, Chimichangas, Pastas and the Pizzas. And till last year, we would have recommended that you definitely try the Starters and the Pasta. However, our half dozen visits this year (2008) have made us look for other restaurants. This place has left us wanting for service, availability of menu items and even the quality of food served. During our last visit, we asked for salad, pizzas and a pasta, all of which were not available. We settled for a soup, ravioli and a side of baked potato. The French Onion Soup was the first of our many disappointments. It turned out to be an indianized curry, suspiciously of left overs. Any attempts to explain that the soup was expected to have some similarity to the original recipe, was met by nonchalant shrugs that conveyed a take-it or leave it. We were very happy to leave it. Order taking is slow and tedious. There were no recommendations and no customisations. Food presentation was fine. And there were no over zealous managers repeatedly asking us about the dining experience. Tables are close to each other and a loud group will be intrusive. The rest of the eating experience was not memorable. The staff and the service are reluctant. The menu is not expensive and that seems to be the second reasons why people still find their way to fill the tables. The first reasons is its proximity to schools, clubs and malls. Calcutta has seen several new restaurants, many which favour identical cuisines offered by Jalapenos. We suggest that you try the other alternatives. If and when you do dine at Jalapenos, do share your experience. We would like to know about others who agree/disagree. P & P

Very good food and good ambience. I've visited this restaurant around 3-4 times but each time its been great. Try the cheese fondue its tooo good

this place is a must in your places to eat list in kolkata... the chinese here is authentic in its own way. they say chinese cuisine is different in different cities or states in india.. in this part of the country we can call it bengali chinese. nothing to worry about the crazy name and what it would taste llike.. now you cannot expect typical authentic indian cuisine in china right!! anyways its the most buzzing eating joints in the city and most common for friends and family to throw a party or treat at this place... ask anyone in the city about how many times you have visited this place and you'l know its popular moreover eating there will let you know the reason itself... the chinese salad is a must...its divine...moreover its a good to your pockets as well..
