Recently my husband had a liposuction there, ended up in coma. He had been ICU within Lilavati for over 6 weeks. There will be a major impact on his and my life.
There is an ICU unit within the hospital, but the facilities are very very basic. Check around first before checking in. It may cost a bit more to go to a larger hospital. But the additional costs are well worth it. Be safe!
"It is a political AND criminal center not a hospital"
1 out of 5 blips
Each and every DAE hospital is sick. The doctors are at best illiterate and arrogant. None are knowledgeable.
My whole life, I haven't had any positive experience. They are a big clinic, nothing else.
The problem is more with the system, not the hospital.
The system of referral and recommendation is flawed and screwed up. The doctors do not understand anything and will not recommend for outside treatment either. Poor patients are left to die a slow death without any treatment. The head of the Hospital is a political position not a medical; that explains the problem in the system.
My recommendation to anyone who is going to BARC for a serious treatment is to fight tooth and nail to get refered to Jaslok. If it requires a high bill, noways you will get referral without a big fight. Fight the way out and get yourself treated outside. That is the only way to survive. Fight out. Take expense print out, get an appointment with the head and take your own doctor too to have him explain why you need that urgent surgery. Let him know, that is the only option left!. Also, if nothing works, let him know, you have to kill him before you die. The idea is, do whatever it takes and come out if the Hospital.
Anyone, please do not join BARC or NPC taking into consideration a good medical facility. NTPC or NHPC are far far better options.
Holy Family Hospital- One of the most renowned hospitals of Mumbai and also a landmark in Mumbai but its service to the patients be it in-house or OPD Patients has become pathetic or you can say has gone from bad to horrible. Here, the staff that is right from the doctors up to the nurses is more money minded than being patient oriented.
The patient is kept in the ICU and even if he or she is recovering the relatives of the patient are told that the patient is serious and till the relative of the patient do not put their foot down and ask the doctors as to how long and for what reason the patient is kept in the ICU the patient lies there and is discharged from the ICU as per whims and fancies of the doctors present. Even though there are medicines ordered for yesterday and medicines are remaining, more medicines are ordered the next day also. Everyday around 5 face masks are ordered for every patient and I am sure nor the doctors nor the nurses will be changing face masks when they move from one patient to the other, also other staff members too wear the face masks and move about the entire hospital wearing it and also enter the ICU wearing it. In the ICU the nurses tie the patient’s fingers so tight that the blood circulation to the fingers stop and the fingers turn black, also to see if the patient has soiled the patient is just turned so badly as if it is not the patient but some lump of unwanted dirt. Just because the patient is in their hands that does not mean the patient has to be treated badly. Also if the patient is taken out of the ICU on the relative’s insistence the sister at the ICU tells the relative that even if the patient is dying, he should not be bought in the ICU. The responsibility of the patient is also shrugged by one doctor to the shoulders of another doctor if 2 doctors are looking into the case of the patient. Can’t the 2 doctors consult each other regarding the condition of the patient? The nurses in the ICU also pinch the patient so badly that there are black patches on the patient’s hands and legs. Is this the way a patient in the ICU should be treated?
When the patient is shifted to the ward he or she is treated so badly. The nurses do not come on time to feed the patient. The food is brought and kept and the nurses are busy chatting away to glory. The feed then is totally cold when given to the patient. The tablets to be given to the patient are pounded so coarsely that it does not pass through the feeder and is ultimately thrown out. What is the use of bringing the medicines if they have ultimately to land in the dustbin? In the ward if the patient is coughing and throwing up sputum and the nurse is standing there, she (the nurse) will stand with folded hands and watch the patient, the relative of the patient has to run with the cotton wool and the bowl to collect the sputum. The sputum bowl is so dirty and it looks like it has not been washed for ages. The urine from the bag is collected only once a day and when thrown in the toilet, the toilet is not at all flushed. In the ward the bell that is provided to call the nurse does not function, even if the patient is feeling cold then the nurses does not know how to close the windows. Doesn’t this get up to your nerves?
As for the OPD it is no better, there once you get a number you have to stand in an equally long line to pay your consultation fees at the bank which has only 2 counters and the staff there is very slow. Once you are done with all this and you await your turn to meet up with the consultant you are told that the consultant is on rounds and he will be late. There your precious time goes for a toss. There out of 100 cases almost 80 cases are either told to get admitted or that they have to undergo a surgery, when the problem can be tackled by following a course of drugs.
Well to begin with the hospital looks good on the outside and it also boasts about the excellent Service of the hospital, but once the patient goes in for treatment at the OPD or is admitted to the hospital he or she has to bear the brunt of it.
The patients are charged exorbitantly in case of an inpatientor if in an OPD then the doctors take their own sweet time to come. If a person wants to visit the doctor in the OPD then he has to take a half day off from Work.
Even if a patientis admitted and the relative wants to know about when to expect their kin to be a little better the staff rudely speaks to you as if they are doing a favour. Also the doctors in charge of the patients in the ICU which is also critical just shrug their shoulders off the responsibility and keep on guiding the patients relative to the another doctor saying ok he/she is under that doctor.
Also while paying there are 2 counters and serpentine lines as mostly one counter is not finctional during peak hours.
