"Clean place, low on amenities, within the city."

Cantonment railway station is just about 3 km from Shivaji Nagar
bus stand, and is a convenient place to board and alight trains.
The halt is usually short, but I have never seen the station
crowded. There are just two platforms, 1 (on the entrance side)
for trains coming into the city, and 2 for those leaving it. This is a nice alternative to the Bangalore City Railway Station (also called Majestic, because of the bus stand near it), especially, for people staying in the eastern part of Bangalore.
Haven't seen much of amenities... restrooms should exist,
drinking water is available (guess that's true for railway
stations all over India) and there is plenty of seating
arrangement (although, each seat is right next to a
trash can ;), on a positive note, there's no excuse for
littering :) ) but that is pretty much it.
Information panels are good, and announcements are clear
and timely.
The automatic ticket vending machines (for platform tickets)
have been removed (as of January 2009).
The footbridge has just stairs and no ramps.
The road outside the station is a one-way, and the approach
is from the Miller's Road end. Parking lot, unfortunately,
is on the opposite side of the road. Thankfully, the
friendly traffic cop helps passengers cross the road by
turning on the pedestrian (zebra) crossing signal and
activating the siren, and also yells at vehicles
that zoom past you callously.
