Hotel Ajantha

It is one of the few restaurants on MG Road that still serve thalis for as low as Rs 25. The quality of food is decent and one can always go there in case of an emergency. The interiors are old but clean.

It s amazing such a place still survives so close to MG Road. The food is decent and dirt cheap(you can see a lot of cab drivers frequenting the place), the South Indian thali costs just Rs.25 and the North Indian thali Rs.30. The dosas and snacks are pretty good as well.

Nothing fancy but the food is good. Mini Idlis dipped in Sambhar with a tinge of ghee is my favourite snack there.

Ajantha is a throw back to another age. An old style hotel with a dining hall on the ground floor, placed around a courtyard plaza that also has a small provision store, a marriage hall and other assorted. useful service providers like an STD booth, travel agent, flower shop etc. If you are Malgudi fan, you could easily visualise Swami coming here, dressed in his good clothes, hair neatly combed, for a Sunday afternoon treat with his favourite uncle.
Amazing considering it is situated just off MG Road, in a lane adjacent to the ING Bank headquarters - also accessible from Brunton Road.
About the food now. The South Indian thali rocks. Good, wholesome food. As for evening snacks, I love their crisp dosas. I could have them everyday. Actually, I do, breaking the routine occasionally with Mangalor Bajjis made just the way ajji makes them.
