How did we get a seat in VB? : We decided to go to VB on Sunday and knowing the crowd would be huge we thought of reaching place by 2:30. We reached the place by 2:45. Our hunt for the elusive seat began. As we looked around intially only 10 or 12 people were hunting but after 5 minutes number doubled to about 25. We anticipated that a 4 seater would get freed soon and went close by. With us 2 other guys were also looking for a seat. As the seat got empty both guys grabbed and we also took our seats, one of those guys started telling there was one more person joining them and that we should look for other seat. I knew that they had come late then us and told clearly there is no reservation system here and grabbed that seat, those guys shifted to a nearby seat.
Menu : Besides Masala Dosa Menu had Idli, Uddin Vada, Khara/Kesari bath, Rave Vada etc. When we asked about idlis they said it wasnt available and we started with khara bath so that our empty stomachs brightened up before dosas.
Eating First Masala Dosa @ VB : We ordered masala dosa along with Khara bath. Of course the famous site of waitors holding mulitple (upto 12 and more) masala dosa was just that great. I think these waitors are pros in this and are well trained. We finally (after 10 minutes) were served Masala dosas. As soon as i tasted my first byte of masala dosa it melted in my mouth. One notable thing here is as waitors stack lot of dosas at a time, they serve chuttney only after sometime. They use big vessels to serve chuttney to all the people who have received fresh dosas. Chuttney tasted awesome , not too watery nor hard the right taste and went really well with the Masala Dosa and Alu inside.
One thing i noticed that was almost everyone (on an average 95 of 100) eat atleast two dosas if not more. As we finsihed first one we went for the seocnd one without thinking twice.
VB Cons : Cleanliness @ VB can be improved, Spoon they had given for eating khara bath wasnt clean. Secondly when we ordered second masala dosa they took long long time to get it, perhaps we should have ordered both dosas together.
Drinking Coffee : As we finished second dosa and ordered for coffee people waiting for seats latched near our seat knowing that we would finish our stint soon. I knew coffee was one thing that would be best here, so i insisted my friend to drink a full cup too. Well my assumption was true coffee was just that good, one of the best coffees i have ever had. It wasnt too sweet and had right taste, a perfect way to finish the successful outing @ VB.
Compared with MTR : Wrt Cost and taste VB is little ahead of MTR. Even price of Masala dosa is 20 compared to 30 in MTR, but this comes at a cost of going to Gandhi bazar and more waiting time. But all in all i will give more points to VB and MTR will come in second in my list for some time.
