"Many trains, far from the city."

Yeshwantpur (or Yesvantpur) railway station is located on
the Northern fringes of Bangalore. It is very close to IISc,
but is over 10 kms from the heart of the city. Thankfully,
reaching it is straightforward, given that one has to keep
going straight on Jayamahal Extension road to Mekhri Circle
and continue on to CV Raman Road.
There are two entrances to the station: (1) The east side,
near Platform 1. The approach is dark and dingy, and parking
is on a dust road, but within the compound. (2) The west side,
near Platform 6. Reaching this from the city means going on
Tumkur road (crossing Metro) and taking a U-turn. This adds
an extra mile to the journey. But, that side looks cleaner,
with the parking lot cemented, and the entrance brighter.
The west side entrance seems to be newer, and I would guess
more of the long distance trains come on or closer to Platform
6 than 1. Also, for getting to other platforms, there is a
ramp on Platform 6, whereas, you will need to use the stairs
on Platform 1 -- makes a big difference for passengers with
heavy luggage, as the coolies are always on the lookout for
excuses to make extra money.
Packaged snacks and mineral water are available on the extreme platforms
but haven't noticed any fast food or meal options.
Haven't checked the restrooms myself, but I guess, they must
be like at any other station.
Some of the trains from and to Yesvantpur also stop at
Krishnarajapuram (or KR Puram or KJM) on Old Madras road,
and can shave off a dozen kilometres of commuting distance
for people staying near Indiranagar, Marathahalli, etc.
